The Kiln Club - Dilution Bowls
About This Project

Our next project was inspired by the beautiful samples Gordon brought to share—thank you, Gordon! The Dilution technique seems to be a version of the cutting and layering techniques involved in Gordon's pieces. So here we GO!

We’ll be experimenting with texture and pattern by using different cutting patterns and placement techniques. This design opens up so many possibilities! Try layering opaque on opaque or opaque on clear for bold contrasts, create stunning color gradients by “diluting” a hue into clear or neutral for soft transitions, or dive into the magic of reactive glasses to see what unexpected effects emerge.

If you’re not sure what to choose, a great starter combo is: one saturated color (sheet + clear) for the dilution, plus a simple round slump mold.

About Kiln Club

The Kiln Club is a Project Club where fused glass artists gather, fire it up, figure it out and learn something new together.

Looking for a fun, social, and creative way to explore new fused glass techniques? Join our community of glass lovers for monthly fused glass projects — think book club, but with color combos, kilns, and creative sparks. Each month, we choose a project for the group to complete together. We don't portray we know what we are doing — just willing to lead the way by picking the technique, sharing a tutorial or handout, and providing the needed supplies. We’ll meet weekly throughout to work on the project side by side, ask questions, swap tips, and cheer each other on.Spots are limited to 8. Whether you're trying something totally new or helping others learn your favorite technique, this is your space to experiment, connect, and grow as an artist.

  • Think “book club” but for fused glass. Each month we’ll have a theme: sometimes technique-driven (like pulling vitrograph, combing, or coldworking), other times project-based (like making coasters, suncatchers, or platters).

  • We’ll learn together, share resources and ideas, and make our own unique versions of each project.

  • Everyone will take home finished work and a growing library of new techniques.
