Steward Spotlight: Brandon

Meet our Steward of the Month, Brandon. When he’s not at the Cave, he’s a local mountain guide and avalanche educator.

Why did you become a Steward at DIYcave?
I became a Steward because I believe in whats happening at the Cave. When I took the welding class to complete a project I was working on I was blown away by the supportive culture and mentoring I received from Damien and the other Stewards. I believe that people knowing how to create in our culture are so important and empowering. I just wanted to be a part of it all!

What’s your favorite part of being a DIYcave Steward?
My favorite part of being a Steward is seeing someone come through the door with a project in mind and coaching while also learning what is often some new and creative take on something. Nonstop learning environment.

What skills are you hoping to improve on while being a Steward?
I focus mainly on woodworking and have been surrounded by some very talented folks. I have been working hard to pay attention to folks working on mechanical stuff as often as possible as this is a skill set I hope to develop in the future.

What has been your favorite project to see come to life at the Cave?
My favorite project so far has been the building of the metal forging area in the shop! So excited to learn that trade!

What do you tell prospective members touring the Cave?
My advice to someone checking out the Cave is to believe that anything you see being built in there is something that you too can build. Use the folks around you to grow and advance your creativity. Ask questions and always treat the space and equipment with respect.
