Create a playful, sculptural Fused Glass Cactus Garden while learning the fundamentals of glass fusing and slumping 🌵🔥

In this hands-on class, you’ll explore how flat sheet glass transforms into dimensional forms using heat and a little kiln magic. You’ll learn the basics of glass cutting and fusing, along with how glass reacts to heat and why compatibility matters.

Starting with a clear glass base, you’ll design and assemble a cactus garden using colorful glass elements. Your pieces will be kiln-fused to create dimension, texture, and form—resulting in a vibrant, low-maintenance glass garden that never needs watering.

We’ll cover scoring and breaking techniques, fabrication methods and the firing and annealing process so you understand what’s happening at every stage in the kiln. Glass fusing joins compatible sheet glass in a kiln at approximately 1490°F, allowing layers of glass to melt together into a single, unified piece.

One of the joys of fused glass is that all the creative work happens while the glass is cold, giving you time to experiment, adjust, and play with color and composition before firing. By the end of the class, you’ll have a finished fused glass cactus garden and a solid foundation in fusing techniques to inspire future projects.

No green thumb required—just curiosity and a love of color. 🌈

What to Wear

Please wear close-toed shoes, no loose clothing, and hair tied back for safety in the studio.​

If you have personal protective equipment, please bring it with you. Otherwise, protective gear will be provided as needed.

Prerequisites

No Experience Required.

Ages 14+ welcome if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Both need to register and pay.

Certification

Upon completion of this class, you will be certified to use our Glass Studio Tools.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds, Credits & Transfers

We understand that emergencies happen, so if you are unable to attend your class and you cancel with:

• More than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, you may request a full refund or transfer the full amount paid to another class.

• Less than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, your payment is non refundable. However you may transfer the amount paid, minus a 15% cancellation fee, to any class within 90 days of request. It is not guaranteed that a comparable class will be offered within 90 days.

• Less than 48 (forty eight) hours before your class begins, your payment is non refundable. It is extremely difficult to fill cancelled spaces with short notice.

• After class start date/time: No credits, refunds or prorating of fees will be given for missed portions or early withdrawals.

Changes or Cancellations

DIYcave reserves the right to cancel any class, limit class size, change class times or substitute instructors for those listed in the schedule. If a class is canceled, students may choose to receive a full refund or may transfer – with no fee – to another class or workshop. If DIYcave cancels for any reason, all payments can be refunded.
