Intro to Wood Lathe Turning

Learn the basics of the wood lathe, one of the most popular tools in the wood shop. In this class students will create an object from beginning to end which involves mounting a wood blank to the lathe, rounding, shaping, sanding, and finishing. Objects that are made in this class are selected by the instructor and may include, bottle openers, bud vases, candlestick holders or other objects that can be used around the home, given as fun hand made gifts, or stand alone as pieces of art. The class teaches in detail operation of the lathe and how to safely use two shaping tools: the spindle roughing gouge and carbide tip scrapers.

Upon successful completion of this class you will receive your DIYCave certification on the lathe and can independently start creating objects on your own. One three-hour class session.

Wood Lathe Turning 101 - Learning to Create Fine Details

This class takes your wood turning skills to the next level by building on techniques and practices learned in the Introduction to Word Turning class. The class covers use of two tradition turning tools: the spindle gouge and skew chisel. With these tools you can create beautiful and intricate features. Class projects will vary for each class and will be announced in advance. These include detailed vases, mushrooms,…

With the skills learned in this class you can let your imagination run wild and create and endless variety of fun and artistic objects. Students must have taken the Introduction to Wood Turning Class or be prequalified by the instructor to take this class. One three hour class session.

Wood Lathe Turning - Pens

In this class students will use wood shop tools and the wood lathe to make beautiful, classic wooden pens - a favorite for both gifts and personal use. Students will use the band saw to cut pen blanks to length and the drill press and a centering jig to accurately drill out the wood blank for the working parts of the pen. The wooden pen blank will then be turned on the lathe to create the pen shape.

Wood Lathe Turning 102 - Introduction to Bowls

One of the most popular uses of the wood lathe is to make beautiful bowls and platters. Each student will start with a bowl blank and create a small bowl from start to finish. Topics include mounting a bowl blank to the lathe using a face plate and glue block, rounding, shaping, hollowing, and finishing. An overview of traditional bowl gouges will be provided but carbide tip scrapers will be the main tool used in this class. One three hour class session.

Open Lathe with Seatonn

Come and practice your skills with our guidance. Open Lathe at DIYcave provides the perfect opportunity to spend a fun evening honing your skills at the time-honored DIY craft of wood turning. Develop the skills you learned in the Wood Lathe classes you have taken and begin turning wood in true Maker fashion.

Bring your own project ideas and materials or purchase from our inventory of turning blanks and our Lathe instructors will be there to help guide you along. We do not teach a formal curriculum during Open Lathe, however someone will be there if you have any questions or need assistance.

Wood Lathe Turning 202 - Intermediate Bowl Techniques

This class builds on techniques learned in Wood Lathe 102 - Introduction to Bowls. The class focuses on traditional turning tools including the bowl gouge and scrapers. Additionally, students will learn how to prepare a bowl blank to use a four-jaw chuck for mounting, advanced shaping and hollowing techniques, and finishing passes. Students will make 2-3 bowls in this class including a traditional shaped bowl and a small hollow form. Two three-hour class session plus one independent two-hour lab session.

Lathe Tool Sharpening Workshop

Sharp tools are essential for quality turning results. Dull tools result in grain tear out, rough surfaces, and can be frustrating and unsafe to use. This hands on workshop will cover several sharpening techniques, different sharpening jigs, and appropriate grinders and grinder speeds. Students satisfactorily completing the workshop will be certified to use the DIYcave sharpening station and certified to sharpen select DIYcave lathe tools. Tools that you will be certified to sharpen are spindle roughing gouge, spindle gouge, bowl gouges, skew chisel, and scrapers. DIYcave staff strive to maintain sharp tools, but sharpening is often necessary during a project and having sharpening skills is the only way to ensure your tool will be performing its best. This is also a good workshop if you have your own lathe and are looking to learn sharpening techniques.

Laminated Wood Cutting Boards

Want to learn how to make a laminated cutting board?  Keep the first one for yourself and use the skills you learn to make more for friends and family.Creating dimensionally accurate lumber is the foundation of all fine woodworking projects.  In the 2-day series, students will be taught the safe operation and proper applications of a few major woodworking tools.  The workshop will cover table saw, chop saw, overhead belt sander, and glue-up techniques.  We will be building cutting boards to directly apply learned techniques.  Tablesaw certification included.

Wood Xcarve - Intro to Wood Carving

Learn to make eye-catching 3D carving art! The X-Carve at DIYcave boasts incredible precision, matched with ease of use, that will allow you to create fantastic projects with little experience and learning curve. It opens new avenues for artwork to be displayed on woods, acrylics and many other materials that engrave well.

In this class, you will learn the basics of using the X-Carve CNC including designing your artwork, material choices, tips & tricks, and solutions to common problems that might arise in bringing your creations to life. We will go over the tools available for drawing shapes, how to import an SVG file, and what speeds and feed rates are best for different materials. We'll also talk about different kinds of bits that are available and their best uses. You'll get hands-on experience with the XCarve machine itself and cover best practices for clamping material to the wasteboard, how to change bits in the router, and safe machine operation.

Furniture Making 101

Master some of the core aspects of furniture making, as you craft a simple, robust and beautiful hardwood stool. This 4 week class takes students through the complete process of creating a piece of furniture. Starting with rough lumber, we’ll cover what to look for and how to select wood for your project. In the woodshop, students will gain advanced skills in project planning and  you will use nearly every machine in the shop including the table saw, chop saw, bandsaw, drill press, and routers to create the joinery. At completion, students will not only have built their very own stool, but also have the skills and confidence to begin their own journey in furniture making.

Cabinet Making 101

The cabinetry techniques demonstrated will give you the start you need to design and build anything from a workshop cabinet to an armoire. You'll learn the ins and outs of a solid cabinet design that's been used for centuries while getting hands-on experience. During class you will build a small cabinet to take home with you.

Shaker Cabinet Doors

This class will give you an opportunity to learn how cabinet doors are made for different configurations of cabinetry. You will learn how to calculate the different individual door part sizes, how to cut, machine, and assemble them to achieve a specific finished size. We will also introduce you to some of the many choices of the hinges available and why to use a specific type for a particular application. The skills and knowledge learned can be applied to making larger full sized man doors. Students will take home their own Shaker Style Door.

Kids Woodworking

In this two-day workshop, kids will have an outlet for their creativity and tackle design challenges using technical problem-solving skills and mathematics to design and craft something special. Kids will focus on design, measurement, and layout techniques while gaining experience with power tools such as the miter saw, drill press, palm and drum sanders, router and various hand tools. This is a wonderful program for young makers, introducing them to the joy of woodworking and the pride of creating something with their own hands. Beginners and intermediate beginners are welcome and will progress in their skill level. '

Teen Woodworking

Cut, carve, sand, create and more in the wood shop! This fun, introductory course will give you a solid foundation in woodworking techniques. You’ll learn best practices for many tools in the woodshop including both power tools and hand tools, construction techniques and finishing applications. Participants will use the table saw, jointer, planer, drill press, bandsaw, track saw, disk sander and much more. 

Handmade Wooden Utensils

Join us for a unique hands-on woodworking workshop! Using simple hand tools and techniques, you’ll create a beautiful useful object: the wooden spoon. A hand carved cooking spoon can make a wonderful gift or provide the perfect rustic charm to your own kitchen.

Wooden spoons are one of the oldest eating utensils on the planet. Artisan cooking spoons are not only beautiful, but also thoroughly practical and amazing to use for both cooking and serving. You'll start with a wooden spoon blank and slowly carve out the long handle and custom shaped bowl. You'll design and make a beautiful, custom, wooden spoon in your choice of walnut, maple, or alder wood. Sturdy and graceful, these spoons will make your other kitchen utensils jealous. Everyone appreciates a beautiful, handmade gift, this class is a great one to take.

Epoxy and Wood River Table 101

In this class, you’ll learn about the art of making a river table in the format of a charcuterie board that you can then take home! All the techniques for building larger river tables on your own will be covered. This is the perfect class for people wanting to learn how to work safely and effectively with resin & wood and takes place over the course of 2 consecutive weeks.

Teen CNC Design

In this intro workshop you will build and program robots using LEGO’s® educational SPIKE app kits. By workshop’s end, students will have a solid foundation in LEGO robotics and be able to create, modify and control their own robotic creations. These workshops are a great first dive before DIYcave’s series of robotics and 3D printing classes. Computers and robots will be provided for workshop’s duration. No prior robotics or programming experience required. Basic familiarity with computers and technology is beneficial. Be prepared to engage in hands-on activities and work closely with fellow participants to explore the exciting world of LEGO® robotics! Repeat participants are welcome and will progress in skill level.

Plasma CNC Workshop

This is a class for those that have experience elsewhere on CNC machines including our Glowforge laser and would like to have access to our CNC plasma cutter! Come and spend 3 hrs with us to become certified on our machine. We will be reviewing tool path creation, feeds and speeds for materials, and best practices.

Included in this class price are consumables necessary to get started and start creating your custom metal pieces.  (Electrode, nozzle and shield) Be sure to bring them back when you schedule shop time as they are not provided by DIYcave.

Intro to 3D Printing

This beginner's course for 3D printing and design in Tinkercad.  Come see the 3D printers at DIYcave, learn how they work, and find out why 3D printing is so revolutionary!Have you always wanted to try out 3D printing?Are you curious about exactly how something gets from an idea to a real world object?Are you intimidated by the whole "design and create" part?Then, this class is for you.3D printing is a skill that anyone can learn to use and enjoy. This class will cover everything from how a 3D printer works to creating and printing out custom designs. We will be using Tinkercad, a free, easy-to-use web app in this class.  At the end of this class, you will have added 3D printing to your skill set and be certified to use the 3D printers at DIYcave!

CNC - Boss Laser Workshop

This is a class for those that have experience on our Glowforge laser or other CNC equipment and would like to have access to Bruce! Our Boss 3655 Laser. Come and spend 3 hours with us to be certified on our machine. We will be reviewing tool path creation, feeds and speeds and best practices.

Create Patterns for Stained Glass using Procreate and Cricut

So, you have an idea for your next glass project. But you're not sure how to get your idea transferred to glass? This class is ideal for students who have taken the basics of stained glass and are ready to start designing their own projects. In this lesson we will cover the basics of using Procreate and a Cricut printer to streamline your pattern process. This method can be used for copper foil or lead glass construction techniques. 

Kids 3D Printing

Are you curious about exactly how something gets from an idea to a real-world object? This class will cover everything from how a 3D printer works to creating and printing out custom designs. You will be directed to the proper software to add to your own computer for future self-learning too. Beginners and intermediate beginners including repeat participants are welcome and will progress in skill level.

Date Night - Stained Glass

Come get creative and add a unique touch to your home decor. In this class you and your partner will make a stained glass sun-catcher or a fun multi colored honeycomb suncatcher. This is a great way to try out making stained glass and you can take the class with a date, spouse, parent, bff, etc.  

This introductory class provides a foundation for stained glass using the copper foil technique. All glass pieces will be precut. You will learn how to add copper foil to the glass, how to use a soldering iron and use solder to connect all of the glass pieces together.Think of it like a cooking class - we prep the "ingredients" you put it together and walk out with a finished piece - you won't do the whole process start to finish but you will get to try making stained glass plus have a fun night out!!

Intro to Stained Glass - Honeycomb or Seasonal Suncatchers

This is a great introductory class that is meant to teach anyone the basics of stained glass in just 2 hours. Bring yourself and your friends in to make a one-of-kind stained glass Multicolored Honeycomb suncatcher.

Learn the fundamentals of stained glass by crafting your very own stained glass piece. This introductory class provides a foundation for stained glass using the copper foil technique. There will be precut pieces of glass shaped like honey comb so you can design your own honey comb configuration. You will learn how to add copper foil to the glass, how to use a soldering iron and use solder to connect all of the glass pieces together. You'll be leave with a beautiful eye catching creation upon completion

Stained Glass 101 - Copper Foil Technique

Learn the exciting art of stained glass by crafting your very own flat glass panel from start to finish. This skill based class provides a stong foundation for stained glass using the copper foil technique over two class sessions.  You will have you choice of predetermined patterns and you'll be able hang your eye catching creation upon completion. Safety tips are discussed, as well as the common tools used.

Stained Glass 102 - Choose Your Own Pattern

So, you've taken an Intro Stained Glass class, are in love with the craft and are ready to do more. Now what? If you want to jump into bigger pieces but want help and guidance along the way, this course is for you.

In this 4-week course, you will create a stained glass suncatcher using the copper foil method and pattern of your choice. You will learn learn new tips, tricks and methods to creating successful multi piece projects.  Proper pattern layout, glass selection, cutting best practices and complex shapes, grinding for proper fit, foiling, soldering, polish and patina will all be covered in this course. 

Stained Glass Flower Bouquets

Come make a bouquet of stained glass flowers! Capture the beauty and joy that a bouquet of flowers can bring in a timeless and everlasting form.  This workshop will teach you the four step process of copper foiled (Tiffany) stained glass to create a small arrangement of flowers such as poppies, roses and tulips. You will create and take home a stunning glass flower arrangement to cherish forever!

This class is designed for both beginner and experienced glass artists, students will learn to cut and grind their glass, copper foil and solder a stained glass piece. Join us for an evening of creativity, music and conversation!  You'll also receive credit for 3 hours of studio time to come back and practice what you've learned and make more! All included in the class cost.

Glass Open Studio

If you have taken a glass class at DIYcave, come to our Glass Open Studio sessions. Come back and use our tools to practice what you learned, make something new or make a gift for family/friends, and spend a fun time with others while working on your craft.

Come and practice your skills with our guidance. We do not teach techniques in Open Studio, however someone will be there if you have any questions or need assistance.  We recommend you have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to complete your project.

Enjoy access to tools and non-glass supplies including solder, copper foil, flux, patina, and more. For your convenience, we will have affordable art glass and other materials available for purchase or bring your own.

Glass Cutting Workshop

In this class you will learn to cut glass for either fused or stained glass. By the end of the evening, you will be cutting straight lines, curved lines, circles and cutting curved pieces that fit together. A perfect glass cut has a certain amount of satisfaction that comes with it  Come join us and cut some glass.

Sewing - Garment Making 101

Come learn how to sew your own clothes! In this comprehensive 2-week sewing series you will learn all the ins and outs of how to successfully sew your own clothing. You will gain sewing knowledge and skills and by the end of the series you will have a fun fleece pullover and you can say “I Made It”!

TIG Welding 102 - Make Your Own Project 4-week Course

Have an idea for a TIG welding project but want guidance and help along the way?  Creating solid weld joints in multiple positions is the foundation for all metal projects. This course is designed for students to increase their knowledge of TIG welding and joint construction.

Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, also known as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), is a precise welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to join metals. The process also uses an inert gas, typically argon, to protect the weld area from atmospheric contamination and oxidation. TIG welding is known for its versatility and control, and can be used to join a variety of metals, including steel, stainless and gauge copper.  TIG is also used with Aluminum but that will not be an option in this class.

Kids Sheet Metal Art

Learn how to use a torch to cut creative forms from sheet metal. Hammer the artwork into shape and braze on a hook to display it. This exciting class provides a great introduction to the world of metal art and sculpture. Beginners and intermediate beginners are welcome and will progress in their skill level. 

Date Night - Weld Together!

It's our Date Night Version of Welding Workshop!You'll learn to cut steel with a torch then try your hand at Mig Welding and take your creations home with you. Couples that weld together, stay together!

Teen Metal Shop Workshop

Let’s create with metal! This fun, introductory course will guide you through the process of metal fabrication through creative exploration of the most commonly used tools in the metal shop. Come learn to metal inert gas/MIG weld, bandsaw and plasma cut, heat, form and shape with an oxy/acetylene torch, then apply that knowledge to create your own work of art.

Welding 101 - Structural Foundations - Make a Table Base

This 2 week course is all about the skills you need to design and make items with steel. Each student will fabricate a table base from 1.5" square steel tubing. The class builds upon skills learned in the beginning MIG welding classes. If you have previous MIG welding knowledge, this class will give you a chance to technically hone your skills. We will concentrate on honing fabrication skills including table design, layout, jigs, weld prep, welding technique, minimizing distortion, and weld finishing (grinding and sanding). Each student will build a side table with the dimensions 20"W x 20"D x 24"H

Welding 102 - Make Your Own Project 4-week Course

Have an idea for a welding project but want guidance and help along the way? Creating solid weld joints in multiple positions is the foundation for all metal projects. This course is designed for students to increase their knowledge of MIG welding and joint construction.

In this 4 week course, our welding instructor will help you design your project, determine materials list, help you order materials, then assist as you fabricate using all the tools and supplies in our metal shop.

Intro to Welding - Women Only

Our Women’s only Intro to Welding class introduces students to MIG (GMAW / Wire Feed) welding, a widely used and versatile process that is perfect for beginners wanting to start on their own metal fabrication projects.

During the class, students will learn about the equipment needed for MIG welding, how to correctly set the welders, and how to prepare and clean the metal surfaces for successful welds.

The class will emphasize safety precautions, including proper clothing, ventilation, and safe handling of equipment. Students will learn how to weld tacks and and basic lap and T joints, which are essential techniques that will allow them to start creating their own welding projects.

Intro to MIG Welding

This hands-on class is perfect for beginners or anyone needing a refresher class in cutting and welding. You'll cut steel with a plasma cutter and weld those pieces back together. You'll get to try your hand at MIG welding.

Intro to TIG Welding

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding is the ultimate method for beautiful welds. In this class you will learn the basics of TIG welding, studio and personal safety, machine and torch set-up, preparing Tungsten, material preparation and then practice your welds! TIG welding provides the versatility to weld more kinds of alloys and metals than any other arc welding process. Students will apply topics demonstrated to create a welding sample in mild steel.

Sewing and Leather Open Studio

Come and practice your sewing and leather making skills with our guidance. Open Studio provides the perfect opportunity to spend a fun afternoon honing your skills. Develop the skills you learned in the Sewing and Leather classes you have taken and begin making your visions come to life in true Maker fashion.

Intro to Leather Tooling: Make Earrings or a Cuff

Learn the basics behind tooled leather earrings! In this class, students will learn how to prep, design, paint and seal their works. There will be some stencils provided and students are more than welcome to bring their own ideas and inspiration.

You will learn how to create stencils, cut shapes, prep the material, use a swivel knife, select stamps, dye, paint, and burnish as well as add the jump rings/posts to their earrings. At the end of the class, students will leave with basic knowledge of the fundamentals of leather working, earring making and a beautiful pair of earrings (or two!)

Date Night! Valentines Jewelry

This fun and creative class introduces you to the basics of soldering and the art of creating beautiful sterling silver rings. You’ll use a torch for soldering and learn how to size, shape, and texture your rings using a ring mandrel, sizer, and various texture hammers. Take home new skills and 3 beautifully crafted rings!

All material included. The Instructor will have additional materials to purchase if you want to embellish your creations further or patina.

Jewelry Open Studio

If you have taken a jewelry class at DIYcave, come to our Jewelry Open Studio sessions. Come back and use our tools to practice what you learned, make something new or make a gift for family/friends, and spend a fun time with others while working on your craft.

Intro to Jewelry Soldering - Silver Stacked Rings

This fun and creative class introduces you to the basics of soldering and the art of creating beautiful sterling silver rings.  You’ll use a torch for soldering and learn how to size, shape, and texture your rings using a ring mandrel, sizer, and various texture hammers. Take home new skills and 3 beautifully crafted rings!

All material included. The Instructor will have additional materials to purchase if you want to embellish your creations further or patina.

Intro to Metalsmithing

In this class, you’ll create beautiful hand-forged metal pendant using copper and brass. Learn the basics of metalsmithing including working with a range of our jewelry studio tools including the jewelry saw, dapping tools, piercing tools, hammers and soldering torch. You will transfer a pattern to a piece of metal, drill or punch holes in the metal, saw out the design, shape, file, add textures solder and sweat solder your pieces together.  Sweat soldering is used when putting together two flat pieces of metal, to create a complete seal holding them together with no gaps around the edges.

Take home a beautiful new piece of jewelry to wear or gift to someone special.

Spinner Ring Workshop - Learn to Solder

If you've had some experience with soldering or just new to this craft, you'll love this Spinner Ring workshop.  This ring is sometimes called a meditation ring, or a fidget ring - perfect for busy hands! You'll learn how to size and fabricate a Copper ring band with three smaller Sterling Silver bands that spin freely around the main ring. You can also upgrade your class materials to all Sterling Silver or mix metals!  Learn how to solder, file, stamp, texture, and apply a patina and more!

Bezel Setting Workshop - Make a Pendant or Ring

This fun workshop is great for those with some metal working/soldering experience and want to advance their skills. Learn how to create and bezel set a gemstone in sterling silver from beginning to end! We will create a bezel setting for a cabochon gemstone, learn how to solder the bezel, create a back plate, solder the bezel to the back plate, file, and set the gemstone. Take home new metal working/soldering skills and a beautiful necklace pendant or ring. All materials and tools provided. Small, personal class instruction.

Metalsmithing - Explore Rivets and Texture

Come and learn to rivet and make a multi-layer pendant or a pair of earrings using copper and brass.  In this 2.5-hour workshop, students can follow a pattern or use their own design ideas to create one-of-a-kind pieces while exploring how to make simple shapes to layer or hang in interesting ways.  Learn a variety of metalsmithing techniques including how to cut sheet metal with a jeweler's saw, file, drill holes with a drill press, rivet together layers of metal, apply textures, finish your pieces and, if desired, apply a patina to highlight the textures.  We will finish off by assembling the earrings/pendants with ear wires and jump rings.  Samples will be provided for ideas and inspiration.

Wire Wrapped Earring Workshop

Have you ever wanted to make your own jewelry? Do you have a stash of beads at home and struggle to find the perfect design?  Bring your own beads or select from our assortment of natual stone and glass beads. Post/Stud Earrings

If you've had some experience in soldering or taken our Intro to Soldering class, or are just a beginner, you'll love this new class!

Design and make two pairs of sterling silver post/stud earrings. You'll get an introduction to the metalsmithing tools needed and learn how to cut and file silver sheet, texture, solder, and oxidize metal. You'll learn how to recycle scrap silver and sweat solder too. We'll also have a range of stamps and designs to choose from to fabricate your earrings.

Spoon Ring Workshop

Have you ever come across beautifully ornate silverware and thought, ‘I’d love to transform this into a cherished ring’? Well, in our upcoming workshop, you’ll do just that. Learn the art of polishing and shaping vintage sterling silver plateware into a ring that holds timeless beauty. Throughout this workshop, you’ll gain insights into the various types of metals used in plateware, identifying those best suited for crafting jewelry. Discover the techniques to polish and mold it to the perfect size, and finally, add a patina to achieve a desired darker or rainbow- like finish. Embrace the sustainability of the process and bring your silverware to life in the form of a beautifully crafted ring.

Intermediate Jewelry Soldering - Rings

This fun and creative class helps take your soldering skills to the next level. In this class, you’ll you’ll take what you learned in the Intro to Soldering (stacked rings) class and apply that knowledge to a more complex soldering project using chip and flux, third hands, and different levels of solder.

Textured Hoop Earrings

In this fun 2-hour workshop, students will learn to create the perfect textured hoop earrings, how to shape a copper or brass hoop, add texture using hammers and stamps, and finish them up by creating sterling silver earwires. Previous jewelry making experience is helpful but not essential.  For your safety, close-toed shoes, long hair pulled back, clothes that you don't mind getting dirty are highly recommended.

Intro to Beaded Earrings

If you've been looking to get started in the world of professional earring making, this is the class for you! In this introductory earring making class, students will create their own beaded dangling earrings and learn about the tools, tips and tricks, and skills required for growing jewelers to discover their creative voice. 

Students will learn how to use professional jewelry pliers and cutters to secure beads onto wire and dangle them from elegant earring hooks. The class will also review how to consider different designs as students explore what types of beads and styles speak to them the most. Each step of creating our earrings is carefully explained, and within each step students can work at their own pace. After just this one class, students will have the knowledge and power to continue creating beautiful jewelry for years to come!

Fused Glass Jewelry Cabochons

Learn how to make a unique and colorful fused glass cabochon.  Each piece is formed into a domed circle or oval resulting in a unique, one-of-a-kind glass cabochon. Small chunks of glass, when fired to a full fuse, melt and round out in much the same way as a small, melting chunk of ice turns into a round drop of water. During this workshop you will learn the basics of fused glass, different types of glass and how to cut glass.
Our instructors will guide you through the process of planning and composing your design, and will provide tips and techniques for choosing and combining different colors and textures of glass.

Metal Clay - Rings

Learn how to make rings with Metal Clay. You will learn how to create a free-flowing ring with some adjustability on the size. These rings will be created and fired flat and formed into shape around the mandrel after firing. You will also learn how to form a ring on a mandrel, creating a smooth seam. We will cover how to deal with the shrinkage for sizing. We will be using Art Clay silver 950. It is the most suitable and durable clay for this type of project. Materials provided will be 10 grams of clay and kiln safe cubic zirconia. 

Metal Clay - Pendant or Earrings with Natural Stones

If you have been wanting to learn how Metal Clay works, and like creating with natural stones, this class is for you. We will cover the basic skills of working with Metal Clay including how to achieve nice textures and create a pendant or a pair of earrings. You will learn how to add stones to your fine silver creations with a pre-made bezel cup. These bezels are great to use for those stones you love but cannot go into the kiln. You will have 10 grams of fine silver clay, a bezel cup, and a stone to design your pendant or earrings with. Use your creativity and design a great pendant for yourself or a gift. Tools and textures will be provided. All skill levels are welcome. This class is great for beginners and advanced students.

Metal Clay - Dichroic Glass Pendant

Dichroic glass and fine silver Metal Clay is a great way to add color to your jewelry pieces. The glass can be fired in place. In this class we will  cover the basics of working with Metal Clay, the use of textures, designing a bail and combining Dichroic glass. I will demonstrate how to torch fire fine silver Metal Clay. Dichroic glass can not be torched fired.

This class is great for beginners and advanced students. The first night, we will design and build our pendants. They will be made ready for firing in the kiln. Donna will fire the next day. The second night we will polish, antique, and finish our pieces.

Jewelry Enameling Workshop

Watch the magic happen as you use a little imagination, creativity, and a 3,200-degree handheld torch to transform glass powder into a molten liquid, then back to a beautiful solid enhancement of a manipulated metal surface. 

Enameling is the fusing of powdered glass to metal, this art form offers a wide variety of creative options for a one-of-a-kind design. Get started creating with enamel as we cover the basics of safety, application methods, firing techniques, and materials. Learn how you can use enamel to make jewelry, enhance the metalwork you already do, decorate wall art, embellish magnets, and more. This class is jam-packed with knowledge to kickstart your enameling journey or just give you a taste for fun.

Date Night - Turn Wine Bottles into Drinking Glasses

Date Night, DIY style!Have fun with a friend or special someone by creating something together. Fill your cupboard with seriously cool drinking glasses that you made from your empty wine bottles. We'll show you how to cut them using an easy to build jig and how to fire polish the rim of the glasses with our custom torch setup.Bring 4 empty bottles to class and turn them into glasses. They don't have to be wine bottles! Beer bottles, jars and soda bottles make great looking glasses too! *Thick or odd shaped bottles are more difficult, but are possible. Bring round even shaped bottles to learn on before you attempt the more advanced shapes.

This workshop is great for beginner glass artists and people who would just like to learn the joys of fused glass. This workshop is an wonderful opportunity for you to learn how to create your own fused glass pieces under the guidance of an experienced instructor.Learn the basics of creating fused glass art using colorful glass and a variety of glass tools. Suitable for hanging indoors or outdoors, your will have the choise to make a mobile, windchime or set of coasters that will bring fun and color to any space. 

Fused Glass 101 - Slumping - Make a 6" Dish

Learn the basics of slumping glass using colorful glass and a variety of tools.  We will focus on the techniques of fusing and slumping, which offer myriad possibilities for creating with color and form. You will learn the basics of glass and heat interaction, glass cutting, fusing, and slumping. The class will cover mold types as well as firing and annealing procedures.

Learn how to use scoring, breaking, and fabrication techniques to create a 6 inch dish! Starting with a base of clear glass, use your creativity and the skills you’ll acquire in this class to design your dish to your liking.

Fused Glass Pocket Hearts - Valentines Day Gifts

Create a beautiful custom pocket heart to give your loved ones for Valentines Day this year. Handmade with love, they will be able to keep it with them all year long. 

There is no glass cutting, just pure joy of choosing your glass colors, writing an intention and shaping your heart.  Your creation will then be fired in our kiln to melt all your colors together.

In this class you will learn the skills you need to begin forging steel in true Maker fashion. Proper hammer strokes, anvil techniques, stance, forge etiquette/management, history of the craft, and safety are emphasized.

Home Brewing 101

The Central Oregon Homebrewers Organization (COHO) is proud to present this beginner class on homebrewing beer. Club president and Homebrewer of the Year winner Kevin Tucker will teach you the basics of making all-grain beer on the club’s own brewing system. All materials and ingredients are provided, and various homebrews will be available for sampling during the class!

Two weeks from the brew date, we'll get back together at the DIYcave for bottling, and all attendees will get to take home a six-pack of beer (give or take). If you’ve ever been curious about homebrewing—or you already brew and simply want to improve your process—this is a great opportunity to learn from someone with extensive homebrew experience!

Intro to Blacksmithing

Come have fun and try your hand at the time-honored DIY craft of shaping, tapering, and punching steel to create a functional bottle opener.  This is a good 2-hour introductory workshop before committing to the two-sessions Blacksmithing 101 class.

Blacksmithing 101 - Make a Hook

Come have fun and try your hand at the time-honored DIY craft of shaping, tapering, splitting, twisting, and punching steel to create art, jewelry, and functional items.

In this class you will learn the skills you need to begin forging steel in true Maker fashion. Proper hammer strokes, anvil techniques, stance, forge etiquette/management, history of the craft, and safety are emphasized. You will create a useful custom wall hook during the two 2-hour class series. Once complete, you will be certified to come back and use the DIYcave Forge on your own.

Blacksmithing 201 - Forge a Knife Blade

This 2-day course focuses on the forging techniques needed to produce sharp-edged tools of high-carbon steel. We will cover blade design, control of steel grain structure, hardening and tempering methods, steel finishes, and handle construction. Emphasis is on learning the fundamental skills needed to forge a good knife. The knife and handle will be forged from one piece of repurposed steel.  The blade is hardened and double-tempered while the handle left unhardened and resilient.  It makes an ergonomic and useful tool.

Instructors will encourage, demonstrate, and coach you, while telling both the history of knifemaking and bad jokes - you'll come away with a sharp and useful knife of your own creation!

Bladesmithing 202 - Forge a Knife Blade with a Wood Handle

Forge your own knife using high-carbon steel and finsih with a custom wood handle. You'll forge both blade and tang to shape, finish-grind, harden and draw the temper, and rivet hardwood panels for the handle.

The skills you learn in this 3 day series can be applied to any edge-tool design; you'll go home with a knife of your own design suitable for camp or kitchen! Instructors will encourage, demonstrate, and coach you, while telling both the history of knifemaking and bad jokes.

Blacksmith Open Forge

Come and practice your skills with our guidance. Blacksmith Open Forge at DIYcave provide the perfect opportunity to spend a fun afternoon honing your skills at the time-honored DIY craft of shaping, tapering, splitting, twisting, and punching steel to create art, jewelry, and functional items. Develop the skills you learned in the Blacksmithing classes you have taken and begin forging steel in true Maker fashion.

Bring your own materials and project ideas and our Blacksmith instructors will be there to help guide you along. We do not teach a formal curriculum during Open Forge, however someone will be there if you have any questions or need assistance.
