About This Class:
Intro to Fused Glass - Suncatchers

This hands-on workshop is perfect for beginners and anyone curious about the magic of fused glass. With guidance from an experienced instructor, you’ll design and create your own colorful fused glass suncatcher—a bright, light-catching piece made to hang in a window or sunny space.

In this 2-hour class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of working with fused glass, including how to safely cut and shape glass, layer compatible sheet glass, and add frit (finely ground glass) for texture, detail, and visual interest. We’ll cover essential safety practices and introduce the hand tools and grinders used in fused glass work.

Your instructor will walk you through planning and composing your design, sharing tips for combining colors, transparency, and textures to make your suncatcher shine. Once your piece is assembled, you’ll learn how it is fired in a kiln—where the glass is heated to approximately 1490°F to permanently fuse the layers together.

Glass fusing allows for creativity without the pressure of working with molten glass. Because all design work happens while the glass is cold, you can take your time experimenting and refining your composition.

Your fused glass projects will stay at the studio after the workshop to be fired in our kiln. We will notify you as soon as they’re ready to be picked up! *Shipping is available for an additional cost.
