About This Class

Want to dive into sewing but don’t have time for a multi-week series? This fun one-day workshop is the perfect way to learn the basics of sewing while making something cozy and wearable—a custom fleece beanie hat!

• Understanding how a sewing machine works and what all the knobs do.

• Learn how to read and understand sewing patterns.

• Garments construction 101 from how to properly cut your fabric on the fold to sewing straight and curved seams.

• Learn all your sewing basics and a ton of tips on how to sew like a pro.

What You’ll Make

By the end of class, you’ll walk away with a warm, handmade fleece beanie you can wear proudly—and the skills to tackle more sewing projects with confidence.

No prior sewing experience required—this class is perfect for total beginners or anyone wanting a quick refresher.

What’s Included

All the tools you’ll need are provided: fabric scissors, rotary cutters, mats, pins, fabric pens, thread, and needles. 

Materials Not Included:

• Sewing Machine. This is a BYO sewing machine class - if you don’t own a machine (yet) you can rent one of ours for an additional $25. You can request this during the sign up process.

• Fabric. You will need to bring 1/3 yard of 58” wide fleece to class with you.

What to Wear

Please wear close-toed shoes, no loose clothing, and hair tied back for safety in the studio.​

Prerequisites

No Experience Required.

Ages 14+ welcome if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Both need to register and pay.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds, Credits & Transfers

We understand that emergencies happen, so if you are unable to attend your class and you cancel with:

• More than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, you may request a full refund or transfer the full amount paid to another class.

• Less than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, your payment is non refundable. However you may transfer the amount paid, minus a 15% cancellation fee, to any class within 90 days of request. It is not guaranteed that a comparable class will be offered within 90 days.

• Less than 48 (forty eight) hours before your class begins, your payment is non refundable. It is extremely difficult to fill cancelled spaces with short notice.

• After class start date/time: No credits, refunds or prorating of fees will be given for missed portions or early withdrawals.

Changes or Cancellations

DIYcave reserves the right to cancel any class, limit class size, change class times or substitute instructors for those listed in the schedule. If a class is canceled, students may choose to receive a full refund or may transfer – with no fee – to another class or workshop. If DIYcave cancels for any reason, all payments can be refunded.
