9th St Village hosts the 2nd Bend City Fest

This last Thursday the city of Bend hosted the second Bend City Fest community gathering at 9th St. Village surrounding the DIY Cave. 

City Fest creates an opportunity for City departments, staff, and Bend City Councilors to meet the community in a dynamic, family-friendly space! Bevel Craft Brewing was pouring beer and the popular food trucks were keeping guests fed. News Channel 21 covered the event, watch their coverage on the event below.

City Fest featured live music by the talented DJ Jah Yogi!, family-friendly activities, police, fire, and street vehicles, plus information and staff from various City departments regarding their programs and services. Tim and Aaron were interviewed sharing the mission of the DIY Cave and the resources it offers to the community. The DIY Cave was also giving tours to curious guests and sharing classes and tools that are available to use to make your idea a reality!

The community mural was done by Sarah from Let's Paint! She offers art classes for all ages in Central Oregon at a variety of locations. Her paint by number was a huge success and many guests participated in helping to paint the mural; here Sarah is putting on the finishing touches before signing her name.

We invited some of our makers to come sell and show off some of the things they've made at the cave! Our lathe teacher Seatonn brought mostly wood bowls he made on the lathe as well as cutting boards, plates, and vases! Two of our stain glass teachers brought their works of art; Linnea with Greenlund Glassworks and Angi with Crafty As Design. Our leather instructor Mak with Art and Sol was showing off what you could aspire to make after learning from her in our Intro to Leather tooling class. And go getter Jessica with Carleton Manor Mosaics was displaying what you can make when you combine, metal, wood, and glass using our cnc plasma table and boss laser!
