Building for the Community: A Fruit Stand for St. Vincent de Paul

At DIYcave, we talk a lot about making—but what really matters is why we make.

Scott, one of our awesome volunteers recently built a custom fruit stand for the St. Vincent de Paul community food pantry right here in Bend. The project came about in a pretty organic way—his son manages the pantry, and they had a real need for a better way to display and distribute fresh produce.

So he brought the idea into the Cave and got to work...

Using the woodshop, he designed and built a sturdy, functional fruit stand that will now help organize food and make it easier for people in our community to access fresh items. It’s a simple project on the surface, but it’s one of those builds that has a direct, meaningful impact beyond the shop walls.

Once complete Scott told us "They loved the new fruit stand. They do such great work there serving the needy. So proud of my son’s work there and happy I can support him this way."

This is exactly what DIYcave is all about—people using tools, skills, and creativity to support something bigger than themselves.

We love seeing projects like this come through the shop, and we’re always excited to support community-driven builds. If you’ve got an idea that could help a local organization, bring it in. Let’s make it happen.

Think it, Make It.
