Rather than simply following the steps to complete one particular project, you’ll learn how and why these techniques work so you can use them again in future classes and your own designs.

If making your own ring is what brings you through the door, there are plenty of ways to start.
Learn to solder while creating sterling silver stacking rings, explore movement and texture in a spinner ring workshop, learn to set a stone in a bezel-set ring, or experiment with one-of-a-kind designs using metal clay.
You’ll leave with a finished piece you made yourself—but also with new skills and a better understanding of how jewelry is actually made.

Create earrings, bracelets, cuffs, pendants, rings, and other projects while gradually adding new techniques to your metalsmithing toolbox.

Cut Your Own Stone, Then Learn To Set It
We also have a unique crossover between our jewelry and lapidary programs. Students can learn to cut, shape, and polish their own stones and then bring those stones into the jewelry studio to learn bezel setting.
A Community of Makers
One of the most special things about the DIYcave jewelry studio is what happens after that first class.
Many students return for another workshop, then another. Others begin coming to Jewelry Open Studio to work independently on their own designs.
Over time, a real community of jewelry makers has grown around the studio. Makers work alongside one another, exchange ideas, share techniques and inspiration, troubleshoot projects, and encourage each other to try something new.
For some, jewelry making remains a creative hobby. Others have taken the skills they began developing at DIYcave much further.
We're proud to have been part of the early jewelry-making journeys of local makers including Ryan and Amanda of Silver Stag Jewelry, Dori of Sorrel Silver, and Laura and Collin of Wild + Well Adorned, who took DIYcave jewelry classes before going on to build jewelry businesses of their own.

After completing a qualifying jewelry class, makers can return during Jewelry Open Studio to access shared tools and equipment, practice techniques and work on their own projects alongside other members of the jewelry community.
It's a place to experiment, make mistakes, ask questions, exchange ideas and keep developing your skills at your own pace.
Your first class can be the beginning, rather than the end, of the experience.
