Memories and More we MADE at Central Oregon Maker Faire

Sep 11, 2023

Over the weekend, many artists, makers, and tinkerers from around Central Oregon descended upon Deschutes Brewery for the Central Oregon Maker Faire, an annual celebration of all things DIY. Most of Maker Faire consisted of booths for artists and makers to show off their DIY projects and share their passion for Making with others.

DIYcave set up a mini version of our shop in an effort to show all the ways people can tap into their inner Maker using our tools and space. We also held demonstrations, mini classes and encouraged the attendees to participate and help us build a community bouquet of flowers. We made a 3ft tall wood vase on the lathe to hold all the flowers. Our blacksmiths and welders made metal roses, calla lilies and leaves. Our glass artists made fused and stained glass flowers. We also built a flower sculpture that many Maker Faire attendees contributed their artistic touch to by adding mosaic glass in a cascading rainbow of colors. We also pressed flowers out of recycled plastics and printed flowers on our 3D Printer.

We had an amazing weekend and appreciate the High Desert Makers, Visit Bend and Bend's original Craft Beer Maker, Deschutes Brewery for hosting this event for our community. We are already looking forward to next year.

Maker Faire was started in 2006 by MAKE magazine as a celebration of “arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself mindset" and has expanded from a handful of events in the US to a worldwide traveling festival.
