New Woodworking Class -Keepsake Wood Box Joinery
Some woodworking projects are really about learning technique — and this is one of them.
Our new Keepsake Box Joinery class focuses on the small details that make woodworking feel polished: tight-fitting corners, clean cuts, smooth assembly, and the kind of precision that turns a simple box into something worth keeping for years.
In this class, students will build a hardwood keepsake box while learning core woodworking skills and joinery techniques used in fine woodworking projects. You’ll work through measuring, cutting, fitting, assembly, and finishing while getting comfortable using woodworking tools in a real shop environment.
What makes this class especially fun is that it combines practical skill-building with creativity. Every box comes out a little different depending on wood grain, sanding, finishing choices, and the little details each student adds along the way.
Whether you want to store jewelry, letters, tools, keepsakes, or just enjoy the process of building something beautiful with your hands, this class is a great introduction to more detailed woodworking projects.
And yes — there’s something deeply satisfying about putting the lid on a box you built yourself and having it fit perfectly!
Think it, Make It!
What You’ll Learn
Students will be guided through the process of building a hardwood keepsake box while learning:
Basic box joinery techniques
Accurate measuring and layout
Safe use of woodworking tools and machinery
Sanding and fitting techniques
Lid construction and finishing details
How to create clean, professional-looking corners and edges
This class emphasizes both skill-building and understanding why certain woodworking methods work—giving students a stronger foundation for future projects.
A Project You’ll Actually Want to Keep
One of the best parts of this class is leaving with something that feels truly finished. The completed keepsake boxes are functional, gift-worthy, and unique to each student’s style and wood selection.
For newer woodworkers, this class is an excellent introduction to precision woodworking. For more experienced makers, it’s a chance to slow down and focus on fine details and craftsmanship.
Small Class Sizes = Better Instruction
As with many of our woodworking classes at DIYcave, we keep instruction personal and hands-on. Students will have time to ask questions, work directly with instructors, and build confidence using shop tools safely.
If you’ve been wanting to get into woodworking—or looking for a project that combines skill-building with something meaningful—this is a great class to jump into.
